Abstract: A basic deterministic dynamical system is the integral group action on a torus generated by a special linear matrix. One can randomize this by fixing two SL matrices and applying one or the other at each step based on a coin flip. I'll describe an abstract way of turning this new random dynamical system into a deterministic one, albeit on a much more complicated space. Then I'll define what we mean by the phrase "decay of correlations" for it. I hope to be able to provide some insight as to why the whole setup is interesting and important.
